SYRIAN PEOPLE TAKE THE SQUARE FOR REAL DEMOCRACY NOW

Greetings to our friends around the world,

We are Anonymous, the global resistance to tyranny.

As you read this, Bashar al-Assad, President of Syria, wages a bloody and brutal war on his people who seek nothing more than self-expression in the face of oppression.

The Syrian government actively controls the free flow of information for its own sinister motives through a complete international media blackout. The state owns a monopoly over the Syrian media, prohibits any critical analysis of the regime, and freely arrests journalists and bloggers on a whim. Digital surveillance is common, and upon arrest, many citizens are tortured until they reveal their social network accounts and passwords.

Indeed, the Syrian public faces the very real threat of strict monitoring of all online activity through a widespread government surveillance system. Every single Syrian’s web browsing is monitored, censored and recorded at all times using technology provided by Blue Coat Systems. Surveillance software has been installed at all Internet cafes to record every single site visited and word typed. In Syria, simply viewing a website can get you arrested. Such extreme restrictions and surveillance are violative of essential human rights.

For all the attempts to hide their atrocities from the international media, Assad and his corrupt cronies cannot hide the blood and tears of the Syrian people. For months, security forces have systematically engaged in murder, beatings, torture, disappearances, imprisonment and other inhumane acts aimed at stopping the quest for freedom and democracy.

In early August, forces pulled thousands from their homes, herded them into a sports stadium, seized their IDs and cell phones, and detained them for days. A two-year old girl was shot in the eye and killed - her father then shot and detained as he rushed to her lifeless body. A popular blogger was detained in July and has not been seen since then. A famous political cartoonist was beaten, had both hands broken and warned to stop satirizing government officials. Yet the Syrian government claims it has only engaged in operations to combat armed terrorist gangs. However, what gangs are spread over 185 thousand square kilometers and are comprised of children, bloggers and cartoonists?

Anonymous will not stand by idly while states like Syria degrade the common humanity of their citizens through the menaces of violence, surveillance and repression. We will actively challenge governments that engage in censorship and that wage bloody wars on their own people. We will strike in defense of the Syrian people. Assad: we will ensure that the world knows of your brutality and of the suffering of your people. Your blatant lies will be laid bare for the entire world to see. We will do everything we can to assist the Syrian people until you are toppled from power.

Today, Syrians struggle for the very soul of their country. As long as the state uses oppressive tactics to restrict its people, we will not rest. The road to Damascus has been taken and there is no turning back now.

Come for the revolution, stay for the lulz,

We Are Anonymous.

We are RevoluSec.

We are Legion.

We do not forgive.

We do not forget.

Expect Revolution.

Real Democracy Now: Greek Students Take The Square Fight Against Education Reform Syntagma Square Re-Occupied

Greece: Students fight against education reform/Syntagma square re-occupied

On August 24th the Greek parliament voted in favour of the education reform bill submitted by the Minister of Education, Anna Diamantopoulou, which includes some of the most sweeping changes in the country’s educational system. The law introduces a UK-style administration of universities, with external individuals and non-academics taking part in the running of institutions and assessment-based, industry-oriented funding. Diamantopoulou - supported by some members of the far right party LA.O.S (Popular Orthodox Rally) – announced the complete abolishment of the historic university asylum (which prevented police from entering academic grounds in the name of the freedom of expression) and the election of university vice-chancellors primarily from their academic community

Students responded with demonstrations and mass occupations. At least 222 departments across the country are now occupied. There seems to be a completely unprecedented agreement between students across almost the entire political spectrum for mobilisations against the voted law: this is rapidly becoming a stand-off between the Student community and the Parliament.

Below: a google map with departments under occupation (please note that it’s not quite up-to-date, as the number of departments increases rapidly, literally by the hour).

Syntagma square re-occupied

Yesterday, the indignants of Greece took back Syntagma square. Around 20.000 people protested against the IMF, police repression and lack of democracy. Many leftist groups participated, among with many anti-cuts and anti-racist organisations and a small group of Kurdish immigrants. Over 2000 joined the assembly. However in the upper Syntagma square the presence of flag wavers-nationalists, neo-fascists and anti-immigrant haters was strong [1]

Around 0:30, the riot police invaded the square and then a ruthless crackdown place. Many protesters tried to run away towards Stadiou and Filellinon streets. Later on, riot squads entered the “Everest” fast-food, beating up everybody on their way (not only protesters who were trying to escape but also people who were eating there). They threw tear gases and flash grenades and left one protester seriously injured.

Below is the statement of People’s assembly:
On September 3rd, we are everywhere – we fill up Syntagma Square
The squares are us and we are everywhere. We are all. We started as indignant people, we have decided, and in a little while we will be revolting in masses until those who drove us here go away. Until we kick out the bankers and the market’s governments and system.

We all agree that we do not need any spokesmen in this movement, because by definition, but especially in the context of this political and economic system, they will be corrupted, cut off from the people, and will betray the people. We want to decide collectively for ourselves.  We demand to take our lives into our own hands.

The 3rd of September (the day when the first Greek constitution was drafted in 1843, and also when PASOK, the ruling party was created in 1974) is a date we can retake, by giving it back its original meaning, that of the people’s needs.

The 3rd of September is an important date for us. It is also the day that reminds us of the “cancellation” of the people’s aspirations for democracy, freedom and dignity. That reminds us of the lies told and the mockery made by our government.

We do not have any illusions: we understand that we cannot have direct democracy and people’s rule without overthrowing the government, the Troika, and the whole political and economic system.

We call all citizens to the big demonstration and people’s assembly in Syntagma Square and all the country’s squares on September 3, 2011 at 19:00
Bread – Education – Freedom

Equality – Justice – Liberty

The squares are we and we are everywhere

DIRECT DEMOCRACY
[1] The Blogger “The Irate Greek”describes the event of a racist attack:

It was around 3pm on the corner of Ermou and Voulis Streets. A man selling corncobs in the street beat up an African who was selling counterfeit bags. The African was accusing the corn seller of stealing a bag from him and hiding it in his stand. The police let go the corn seller, trying isntead to disperse the people who had gathered. A man in civilian clothes was shouting that people should leave. When @mp_anana and @christina_la asked what authority he had to give orders to anyone, a policeman told them he held some position in the police and the municipality. The corn seller called activists from a far-right group and they started chatting with the police. @mp_anana and @christina_la later found out from kids from the neighbourhood that the corn seller is a member of Chrysi Avgi. A squad of riot police came and shouted again that people should leave, but people were staying to prevent them from beating up the African street sellers and were insisting that the police open the corn stand to see if the bag was inside. A lady told a policeman: “we are paying you to do your job.” He answered: “you are not paying me, mind your own business.” Shopkeepers came out and said that the Africans were ruining their business, that they should leave, etc. Ironically, at least one of them was not Greek herself. Meanwhile, the African man who had been beaten was bleeding in the street (he had to be taken to hospital, full details in Greek here).
(The names @mp_anana and @christina_la are the main display names of some tweeter users who were present at the event)

Enough is Enough! Fight The Machine! Reclaim The Streets and Squares! Reclaim Your Freedom! Take The Streets! Take The Squares!

The World is Ruled by Free Market Fascism Dictatorship Machine.

"Free market fascism is only sustainable free market system. Free markets are inherently unstable. It's not bad thing in itself. But business cycles create unemployment which can lead to revolution or destruction of capital by government to create demand for excessive human supply(e.g. Great Depression). If being poor and unemployed was a crime then revolutions/destruction of capital wouldn't happen.

First country to adopt free market fascism will experience huge economic growth because bourgeoisie will be able to exponentially accumulate capital and replace obsolete human workers with machines without any government intervention to protect proletariat. In the end such economy will reach 90-95% of world GDP. Everyone else will be mere exporters of natural resources because people's sustainable economies won't be able to compete with free market fascism."

Austrian monetarists free market capitalism fraud leads to replacement of humans by machines. Wages don't grow in free market capitalism. Humans are obsolete. Goal of economy is to eliminate all jobs.

Free Markets Goal is: Mass Murder Population Reduction

the elitists want the whole world for themselves. They want to eliminate the rest of us who they refer to as “useless eaters.” They want to return to what they call a “Post-Industrial Society” the type of society that existed before the Industrial Revolution. According to them, the middle class must be eliminated to leave only two classes: the Rich - - - and the slaves.

Enough is Enough! Fight The Machine! Reclaim The Streets and Squares! Reclaim Your Freedom! Take The Squares!

15th october: WORLD (R)EVOLUTION: Take the streets

Take back europe

The only way that the World will wake up is if we all take responsibility to spread the facts of what is really going on.

The Media in Mainstream divide the people by not covering what is really going on..So we the people who are aware need to evolve and put the message out ourselves to the masses and come together to stand up against this Tyrannical oppressive treatment of our fellow brothers and sisters across the Globe.

No matter who you are, where your from, what color your skin is or what your beliefs are. Our greatest enemy is a reckless, bankrupt, useless financial system. Let people know that this is going on! Share, post on facebook, email to you friends.

A Call to Action - Oct. 6, 2011 and onward

October 2011 is the 10th anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan and the beginning of the 2012 federal austerity budget. It is time to light the spark that sets off a true democratic, nonviolent transition to a world in which people are freed to create just and sustainable solutions.

We call on people of conscience and courage—all who seek peace, economic justice, human rights and a healthy environment—to join together in Washington, D.C., beginning on Oct. 6, 2011, in nonviolent resistance similar to the Arab Spring and the Midwest awakening.

A concert, rally and protest will kick off a powerful and sustained nonviolent resistance to the corporate criminals that dominate our government.

Forty-seven years ago, Mario Savio, an activist student at Berkeley, said, "There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part. And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all."

Those words have an even greater urgency today. We face ongoing wars and massive socio-economic and environmental destruction perpetrated by a corporate empire which is oppressing, occupying and exploiting the world. We are on a fast track to making the planet unlivable while the middle class and poor people of our country are undergoing the most wrenching and profound economic crisis in 80 years.

"Stop the Machine! • Create a New World!" is a clarion call for all who are deeply concerned with injustice, militarism and environmental destruction to join in ending concentrated corporate power and taking direct control of a real participatory democracy. We will encourage a culture of resistance—using music, art, theater and direct nonviolent action—to take control of our country and our lives. It is about courageously resisting and stopping the corporate state from destroying not only our inherent rights and freedoms, but also our children’s chance to live, breathe clean air, drink pure water, grow edible natural food and live in peace.

As Mother Jones said, "Someday the workers will take possession of your city hall, and when we do, no child will be sacrificed on the altar of profit!"

We are the ones who can create a new and just world. Our issues are connected. We are connected. Join us in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 6, 2011, to Stop the Machine.

Real Democracy Now America, Stop the Machine, Create a New World, Freedom Plaza, Washington DC, Freedom, Democracy, American Revolution, Real Democracy Now, America, Stop, Freedom Now, Machine, Create, New World, Freedom Plaza Washington DC, American, Revolution, October, October Revolution, Rise Up, Rise Up America

******************************************************************************
Take the pledge and sign up to attend here. Let America know you are coming to make history and a new world!

"I pledge that if any U.S. troops, contractors, or mercenaries remain in Afghanistan on Thursday, October 6, 2011, as that occupation goes into its 11th year, I will commit to being in Freedom Plaza in Washington, D.C., with others on that day or the days immediately following, for as long as I can, with the intention of making it our Tahrir Square, Cairo, our Madison, Wisconsin, where we will NONVIOLENTLY resist the corporate machine by occupying Freedom Plaza to demand that America's resources be invested in human needs and environmental protection instead of war and exploitation. We can do this together. We will be the beginning."

EuropeanRevolution RealDemocracyNOW London Message to Syntagma GreekRevolution: Real Democracy Now London International Assembly WorldRevolution

London Message to Syntagma

London Message Syntagma, Real Democracy Now EuropeanRevolution WorldRevolution Solidarity with Greek people
In this time of great confusion, political apathy and misinformation we are compelled to respond dynamically to issues that affect us all as citizens of the world, as human beings.

We EXPRESS OUR SOLIDARITY to Syntagma Square and, together, we call for the RE-ENFORCEMENT of the network of the Real Democracy Now groups across Europe.

1) We CONDEMN the propaganda of the major mainstream media who do not tell the truth about Greece, claiming that the violence was started by the protesters while there are numerous sources confirming that the Greek police act oppressively against the crowd, use prohibited tear gases, punish and beat protesters without reason, attack stores and arrest even those who do not participate in the protests. The crackdown of June 29th was in fact a chemical warfare against protesters.

We CONDEMN the actions of the Greek government: 1) The introduction of the IMF-EU-ECB Troika’s demands against the wishes of the Greek people. 2) The stance of the vice president of the government Theodoros Pagalos for calling the majority of the Greek people “crooks” while he openly declared that if instability continues the army should be called to protect the banks from the people. We wonder who will protect the people from the cannibalistic power of the banks.

Spain and Greece have been trapped within cultural stereotypes, cultivated by the mainstream mass media and people are led to believe that this economic mess has to do with our cultural habits. Of course we recognise our failure to identify the warnings in time, as before now we chose to ignore the problems and refused to see that we were being led into a destructive financial death-trap for the sake of private banks and global speculators. Hence, we call for the people to RISE UP and despise apathy and consumerism. It is time to take the future in our hands, ending the power of capitalism over our lives, both economically and politically

What we are experiencing, is the vicious application of a disastrous economic model in the EU, in the most undemocratic and provocative way while the political leaders do their best to keep the people misinformed and therefore easily manipulated. The current socio-political system aims to maximize the profit and socialize the cost.

2) We stand by the side of the SPANISH INDIGNADOS who were and always are a great influence and inspiration, by the FRENCH people and all those who go through difficult times, by the people of IRAN who fight against their oppressive regime, by the TUNISIANS and EGYPTIANS who showed the way to freedom, by the people of SYRIA, BAHRAIN, YEMEN, MOROCCO… the struggle is common.

3) We send our solidarity, also, to the people of CHILE who are struggling against the privatisation of schools and universities. During 2011 numerous student protests took place across the country, but the media kept silent about it. The Chilean people have a long history of fights against exploitation, one of the most notable being the fight against the brutal dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. Under neoliberal politics, only a few privileged will enjoy social benefits, the privatization of education will shatter the dreams of the entire youth and condemn future generations to illiteracy.

4) We believe in a global political system of EQUAL PARTICIPATION for all citizens in political life, which should be the dominant value of human society, instead of money, productivism and economism.

5) There is an English saying ‘to take the bull by both horns’. In response to the crisis, we now see both the politics of nationalism and European state-federalism rearing their ugly heads. Nationalism, however intended is divisive, racist, fascist even and therefore ultimately undemocratic. With global capital now dictating each country’s policies, the Treaty of Westphalia has run its course. At the same time, we REJECT any political union foisted on us by the European state as a solution to the crisis, which will only damage each country further by following the same FAILED neo-liberal / global capitalist-led model.

6) Instead, we will replace and transform these bankrupt institutions with democratic People’s Assemblies.

7) Let us now call for People’s Assemblies everywhere! To express our common, local sovereignty, the means to build a new society that supports people and planet, while ALSO forcing each nation to join as one, to take on the global hegemon. For only then, when global capital is superceded by people power will poverty, famine, war and planetary destruction come to an end.

ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE

I think I can change things.

I think I can help.

I know that together we can.

For peace, equality and freedom

Real Democracy Now Anonymous OperationPayback Press Release: Anonymous FBI Arrests

#OperationPayback Press Release: Anonymous FBI Arrests

On the 19th of July, 2011, The US, UK and Dutch governments decided that they finally had enough of their citizens' rights to freedom. In true dystopia style, these governments have trounced upon not only the rights of these individuals, but the basic rights of all individuals: freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and freedom of association.

These actions should not go unanswered.

Those who were arrested believe in a cause, believe in an idea, believe in all of us. We must respond with a real and concentrated effort to redress these arrests. We, as Anonymous, have a very real responsibility to these people, who were jailed fighting for freedom, so we can continue to fight for theirs.

Have you ever joined a sit in, taken part in a strike, marched in the street, or attempted to block access to a building in protest? Anon's actions are the cyber equivalent of these traditional forms of protest, arresting our activists for doing this is a crime against freedom and democracy. But how could our actions be seen and accepted as real protests by governments, when we are shown daily, that they only tolerate demonstrations that serve their own purposes...

Anonymous has now been falsely labelled as a "terrorist group"; people are getting arrested for this unjust accusation and it has become a dirty cat and mouse game with incalculable and uncontrollable consequences. All our actions can be directly compared to protesting on the street... is that terrorism? How could anyone know and prove that an individual belongs to this "group"? Governments can now arrest any activist under this "label" without a real charge and nothing to prove that they belong to or identify with Anonymous. Even though Anonymous is not a "group" it is an idea shared by all who value freedom and justice.

Governments can achieve nothing by attempting to silence participants in Anonymous, as for every one of us that falls, ten more will take their place.

People of the world... do not forget that Anonymous fights not for our own freedom, but for the freedom of everyone, including You.

"When injustice becomes law, rebellion becomes duty" -- Thomas Jefferson

We are Anonymous.
We are Legion.
We do not forgive.
We do not forget.
Expect us.

Real Democracy Now World Revolution: 40 Reasons to Resist! Governments Exist To Serve People Not Private Interests And Banks!

Government is instituted for the common good; for the protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness of the people; and not for profit, honor, or private interest of any one man, family, or class of men; therefore, the people alone have an incontestable, unalienable, and indefeasible right to institute government; and to reform, alter, or totally change the same, when their protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness require it.
John Adams, Thoughts on Government, 1776

"40 Reasons to Resist!
by Min Reyes

1. …because the Government’s mandate has been to represent corporate greed, not the people’s needs.

2. …because democracy does not happen only at the ballot box; it should materialize every day.

3. …because there are no super heroes, and there never will be: it must be you.

4. …because our collective responsibility to each other trumps any loyalty to a partisan government.

5. …because a true revolution does not start with force; it can only start with freedom of the mind.

6. …because we ought to judge politicians not by what they say but rather by the number of individuals they fail to serve.

7. …because the government is supposed to protect its citizenry from corporate power, not be controlled by it.

8. …because government is held in contempt by the people for putting their self-interest over the citizens.

9. …because Aboriginal communities deserve the same basic necessities such as healthcare, education, and drinkable water.

10. …because no social group is above nor below any other.

11. …because promises are not just political rhetoric; a government needs to keep its word and honor its people

12. …because trust must be earned, and constantly maintained, not simply demanded or assumed.

13. …because a government that silences journalists silences the truth.

14. …because silence never helps bring out the truth.

15. …because complacency to abuse, crime, and corruption makes one an accomplice.
16. …because when we face tyranny, our duty to fight is not for oneself alone, but for all those who share in our struggles.
17. …because authority does not translate to abuse of power and trust.
18. …because a ‘strong stable economy’ requires a strong and empowered working class and cannot be built upon an impoverished citizenry.
19. …because the Universal Declaration of Human Rights allows for freedom of information, a right above and beyond partisan political interests.
20. …because we are humans, and our value as such surpasses material wealth.
21. …because there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe nor popular, but it must be done because it is the right thing to do.

22. …because no revolution ever asked for permission to challenge the status quo.
23. …because the nature surrounding us has given us life; it is not right to put a price on it.
24. …because we must be an example to our children of what is right, what is just, and what is truth.
25. …because partisan ideologies fragment reality, and we don’t live in fragments.
26. …because freedom of information is the only weapon against ignorance.
27. …because a government invading our privacy while remaining secretive itself is a grave assault on democracy.
28. …because whistleblowers would not be needed in a government that truly serves the people.

29. …because poverty is not an individual choice but rather the violent process through which those in power oppress us for profit.
30. …because while poverty is not an individual choice, not attempting to abolish it is a conscious choice.
31. …because reason & truth are enemies of tyranny and ideological oppression.
32. …because a life driven by the need to make ends meet is not living, it is merely surviving.
33. …because there is a fundamental difference between a “market society” and a “society with a market.”
34. …because dignity is not for your government to reward upon you, nor to take from you. Dignity is your birthright.
35. …because the tyranny of a government is directly correlated to one’s fear to take action.

36. …because while ignorance is the weapon that divides, truth and solidarity are the strongholds of humanity.
37. …because laws are written by fallible humans, and embody within them the historical context of dominant power relations.
38. …because even though bad laws can be re-written, the lives they impact are lived only once.
39. …because the rights and freedom we do have, have only been achieved through revolution.
40. …because at the end of it all, we would not want to look back and wish we’d have done it when we had the chance.

America Join World Revolution: Rise Up in Cairo Egypt Travel To Washington DC Take The Square October 6 For Real Democracy Now

First Cairo Egypt And Now Washington DC: Tent City Occupation Begins Oct. 6, 2011
by cardiffrevolution

Finally, a large, and rapidly growing, coalition of left wing and progressive activists, and organizations, is coming together with a clear and united platform. Hundreds of thousands are expected to descend on DC this coming October, 111 days from now, not just to march in a permitted parade and then return home, but to stay and occupy Freedom Plaza indefinitely, until their demands have been met.

The Bonus Army, made up of WWI veterans, did precisely this in 1932 so that they could be paid the money that the government owed them for their service, performed more than a decade earlier, and be able to feed their families during the horrible early years of the Great Depression. They were met with violence from the police and two of the veterans latter died from their wounds. The army was also called in and the protest was finally put down after almost six weeks.

In 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Junior was on his way to a permanent tent city being established on the Capitol grounds in Washington, called Resurrection City, as part of his ‘Poor Peoples’ campaign. He was murdered while in Memphis, on his way to the event. After his murder, the army was used to clear the demonstrators and their tent city.

Both of these prior events share fundamental principles with the October 2011 action. Illegal foreign wars, high unemployment, cuts to services and wages while increasing costs and taxes, and corporate influence over political institutions and policies are just as current today as they were at either of those times.

Wage disparity is worse than ever. Jobs are being lost, benefits cut, and homes foreclosed on while the financial elite are boasting record profits. The politicians they’ve paid for are busy stripping away any rules, regulations, and responsible taxation, in return for campaign donations and lucrative post-public-office positions. Plainly speaking, it’s the politician’s jobs to hold us down while Big-Finance, Big-Business, and any other well-heeled special interest with an army of lobbyists rapes us, robs us, and rolls us.

There is a nonviolence pledge that all participants are asked to sign even though it can be expected that the DC police, and the Federal Security Forces, are unlikely to have any such pledge of their own. Information and tips regarding peaceful civil disobedience, your rights, and your responsibilities, will be shared as the event approaches both at the main site as well as in regular updates here at News Junkie Post.

The left has been slow in their response to the loud rantings of the extreme right. A unified and focused effort that brings all those with shared fundamental principles together has taken some time to organize, but that time is here. In One Hundred Eleven days, on October 6, America will show up on the lawns of the Capitol and will not move until they have been heard, and the appropriate responses are forthcoming.

The October2011 site states;

“October 2011 is the 10th anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan and the beginning of the 2012 federal austerity budget. It is time to light the spark that sets off a true democratic, nonviolent transition to a world in which people are freed to create just and sustainable solutions.”

The event beginning October 6 is endorsed by a growing list of participating organizations that include ANSWER, Backbone Campaign, FireDogLake, The Green Party USA, Progressive Democrats of America, Single Payer Action, Veterans for Peace, War is a Crime, Food Not Bombs, Ted Rall – author of The Anti-American Manifesto, Code Pink, World Can’t Wait, United National Antiwar Committee, National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance, and many more. In addition to these organizations, there are currently more than twenty media outlets besides NewsJunkiePost.com that will be covering and carrying this event and all related and relevant information.

Also from the October2011 site;

“Previous demonstrations were one-day events which were simple for the Administration and Congress to ignore” Margaret Flowers, another organizer, told me. “The large demonstrations usually happened on weekends when there was little going on in Washington. “This is different because it is an occupation that begins on a Thursday, a day of business, and will continue.”
They will keep the heat on. “We intend to stay and to have waves of nonviolent civil resistance. The time for symbolic actions has ended. Too many people are suffering and dying here and around the world because of the policies of this nation. The planet is suffering because of the policies of this nation. This government has demonstrated that it is incapable of acting in the best interests of the people and planet. We say that this is unacceptable and we will stay and resist until this changes,” Flowers said.

The goal of the protest can be found in this excerpt from the pledge found on the October2011 site;

“I pledge that if any U.S. troops, contractors, or mercenaries remain in Afghanistan on Thursday, October 6, 2011, as that occupation goes into its 11th year, I will commit to being in Freedom Plaza in Washington, D.C.,…where we will NONVIOLENTLY resist the corporate machine until our resources are invested in human needs and environmental protection instead of war and exploitation…”

The question of ‘if’ it’s going to happen is already settled; comprehensive planning by a large and committed coalition has ensured that. The goal is to sustain the action for as long as it takes. Pack small, pack smart, and pack to make it last. The action will begin during the beautiful low 70′s weather of early October in DC, but the hints of winter will only be a few weeks off. As a group, problem solving can be done as things develop, but, preparation can save a lot of frustration and strengthen the groups morale and resolve.

We have seen the response to such demonstrations in Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen, and Syria. One always hopes that their own government will be more civil, and more democratic, and, indeed, this is everyone’s hope. But, make your back-up plans, contact plans, bail contacts, emergency numbers, etc. Good planning and preparation are what will ensure success.

A volunteers list is already being organized through October2011.org to manage logistics and supplies. Transportation programs are also available at the October2011.org site. A method for receiving donations has already been established and, it too, can be accessed through the October2011 site. Bookmark their page and check back here for any further details as they are available.

Mark your calendars: October 6, 2011, 111 days from today. Arrange to have the time off; as much as possible but preferably for the duration. I’ll see everyone there.

DRY International: Madrid Big Demonstration Protests March on July 23 For Real Democracy Now

BIG DEMONSTRATION MARCH ON JULY 23RD IN MADRID - DRY – International

Yesterday the work group for the popular march held a meeting. As you are anxious to know what we are going to do when you arrive, we can begin to clarify some things.

1- Once you have entered the community of Madrid, the neighbourhood assemblies will mark the routes so that you pass through areas where you can get most coverage. They are working on this. As soon as we know more, we will put each march in touch with its corresponding neighbourhood.

2- You will end up in neighbourhoods about 2 hours from Sol. They will be expecting you from noon onward. There will be parties, food, you’ll be able to rest and get your strength back.

3- Meanwhile, the support cars that will come with you, as well as volunteer cars if necessary, will drive to the camp area (to be determined) to set up the tents and carry the backpacks.

4- At aproximately 7pm, you will depart from each of your neighbourhoods and head for Sol, where we hope you will all converge at the same time, about 9pm.

5- We suggest that people coming from outside Madrid to support us go to the neighbourhood assigned to their march, and then walk from there to Sol.

6- THERE WILL NOT BE A DEMONSTRATION ON THE 24TH!!! So people interested in coming to Madrid should come on the 23rd.

7- Remember that in late July there aren’t many people in Madrid, so we cannot call two consecutive demonstrations.

8- The 23rd is planned as a recreational day, but also as a day of protest, symbolized by your arrival in Madrid and subsequent march to Sol.

9- Activities are being organized for when you get to Sol (we’ll keep you updated).

10- We will all end up at the camp area, where tents will have been set up beforehand.

11- From the 24th on, work days are planned. There is a specific group preparing the content. (We are still waiting for proposals).

12- Our next action is already being worked on (let it be known that the movement will not stop in August). I’d rather not say any more until the plan is more or less defined, but it will be soon. (Again, we are waiting for proposals).

Remember: THERE WON’T BE A DEMONSTRATION ON THE 24TH!!! Please spread the word through your usual channels.
